Extension horticulture classes to start Sept. 11

    School is back in session, and it is time for Extension horticulture classes to resume through Nebraska Extension, starting Sept. 11, at 5:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. CT.
    Classes will be taught in person at the West Central Research and Extension Center for those participants in the North Platte area. Participants at a distance may participate in the same classes online through a web-based teaching platform used by the University of Nebraska.
    All horticulture classes will be taught by David Lott, District Horticulture Educator, or other Nebraska Extension faculty.
Topics are fall or winter-related subjects to plan for the next growing season.
    Extension Master Gardeners may participate in these classes to meet educational hour requirement for the Master Gardener program.
    Class dates and topics include:
Sept. 11 – Fall Bulbs
Sept. 18 – Insect Mode of Treatments
Sept. 25 – Deer and Rabbit Proof (or at least not favorite!) plant materials
Oct. 2 – Putting the Garden to Bed
Oct. 9 – Weather Ready Landscapes
Oct. 16 – Preparing and Judging Fair Veggie and Flower Exhibits
Oct. 23 – Decoding Plant Names for Meaning
Oct. 30 – Holiday Cactus, Poinsettias and Friends!
There is a $10 fee per class for the general public.
Extension Master Gardeners may participate in all classes for free.
    Register by the Monday before each class date for the classes each participant wants to join in.  RSVP to the Nebraska Extension Office in North Platte at 308-532-2683.
