If you’re considering cutting the cable or ditching the dish, BWTelcom wants you to know it can help.
    The company held the latest in a series of irregularly scheduled meetings in Wauneta Jan. 7 to talk about how area residents can stream television over the internet.
    Laurin Hengen of BWTelcom spoke to a small audience at the Senior Center about exactly how that is done.
    It has a number of advantages over both cable and satellite technology, including shorter, month-to-month contracts that make it easier and cheaper to change your personal programming menu. And if you’re a snowbird, you can cancel the programming while you’re living elsewhere for the season, then pick it up on returning.
    “You can turn it on and turn it off whenever you want,” Hengen said.
    And unlike the often unwieldy large menu of channels offered by cable and satellite providers — many of which remain unwatched —  streaming enables the viewer to choose as few or as many channels as they want, even a single channel.
    Hengen also showed attendees the equipment needed to stream, everything from a small device that can be attached to the television to a large box aimed at those with a home theater setup. Those devices cost anywhere from about $50 to $150, depending on how many features the customer wants.
