Co-op stations no closer to reopening

More than a month after they suddenly closed, Cenex Co-op stations in Wauneta and Palisade appear to be no closer to reopening.
Joe Barger, president of the co-op’s board, said yet another board meeting last week did not result in any decisions on the fate of the stations. In fact, “we didn’t have a quorum, really. We had some patrons there.”
Those patrons “were disappointed,” Barger said. “I am, too; probably nobody’s more disappointed than me. We’ve got to get our figures together. The books are a mess.”
He said he did not know why the books were in such bad shape. “You’ll have to ask somebody that knows that.”
The closings were effective Jan. 17.
There have been contacts with other co-ops about possibly merging, he said, although it remains uncertain if that is a real possibility.
