Cribelli changes mind, will run again for council

With no other candidates filing for the position, Wauneta Village Board Chairman Tony Cribelli will run for re-election.
Cribelli said Wednesday he has filed as a write-in candidate. He had previously announced he would not run.
He has been on the council for 15 years, although he took a break from 2001-2004.
The deadline for incumbents to file for re-election was Jan. 16 and was Aug. 1 for new candidates, but no new candidates filed. Incumbents Beau Kramer and Page Johnston had filed for re-election. Terms are four years.
Cribelli said he changed his mind because with no candidates to replace him, there are a couple of city matters he’d like to see through to their finish.
The main one is the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center. On Wednesday, the center’s board—a committee of the whole of the Village Board—met with an auditor as part of the village’s continuing effort to put the nursing home on firm financial footing. She told the board the village had perhaps a year and a half to solve the problem before it faced serious financial trouble.
