New pain specialist seeing patients

Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) has added a new medical specialist in chronic pain management to its list of health care specialty doctors.
Jeffrey Meyer, M.D., F.I.P.P. (Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice) will be at the specialty clinic at CCCH twice a month.
Meyer saw his first patients on Dec. 4 and 19.
“I work with all types of pain management, but I specialize in spine pain,” he said.
He is experienced in spinal cord stimulation, but he does not implant pain pumps, he said.
“I don’t see patients merely to just prescribe pain meds, but I can advise a patient’s attending physician on what I think will work best,” he added.
He did his undergraduate study at the University of Oklahoma and attended medical school at Oklahoma Health Sciences Center to receive his M.D.
Meyer did his residency in anesthesia at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in Dallas, Texas.
During his residency, he also worked in small emergency room units and discovered he really enjoyed helping solve patient’s problems with pain management.
Although he enjoyed being an anesthesiologist, he decided he wanted to do more work one-on-one with patients, focusing on their chronic pain.
Meyer received a fellowship at Texas Tech University and became board certified in pain management in 2005.
He worked for awhile in Dallas, but it didn’t take long before he left and returned to Oklahoma City.
