Palisade school a longtime topic of board discussion

In its regular meeting this month, the Wauneta-Palisade School Board returned to what has become a perennial topic: the eventual fate of the Palisade school building.
But School Superintendent Randy Geier said there’s no reason to rush those discussions, for now.
“Currently, the building’s safe,” Geier said.
But School Board President Jon Anderjaska said that doesn’t mean there aren’t deficiencies that need to be addressed.
“The building is so darned old,” Anderjaska said. “The building is just old and inefficient.”
Neither Geier nor Anderjaska knew the exact age of the building, but said it dates at least to the 1920s; it originally housed K-12 students and now takes in grades K-4.
Discussions of the building’s condition go back at least to the 1990s. And while those discussions are still ongoing, they are mostly preliminary explorations of what the district would do if it decides to modify or replace the building, Geier said.
“We’re just being proactive in case there are new needs down the road,” he said.
