Village gets some of its funds via charitable donations

Randall Riley doesn’t live in Wauneta, but not only is a piece of his heart here, so is a piece of his wallet.
Riley, owner of BWTelcom, is among those who supplements property tax payments with donations to the village, both personally and through the company.
Among his donations is support for the Chateau Theatre. He both donates money to the theater and when a customer has a birthday, they get a card from the business and two tickets to a show.
“It’s a double win for us,” he said. “It supports the community. And people like that you remember them on their birthday; it makes it personal.”
Riley is a Benkelman resident and is the fourth generation in his family to own the business, which is headquartered there but has an office in Wauneta. The family bought Wauneta’s telephone company in 1981.
