Essential Elements Identified for Positive Youth Development

Summer is finally here and our youth are busy with all the activities that summer brings! When choosing those activities, keep Nebraska Extension’s 4-H youth development program in mind!
    Helping youth grow and develop into competent, confident connected, caring adults with good character is a goal of many youth development programs, including 4-H, reports Extension Educator Linda Dannehl. The Essential Elements of Positive Youth Development is a framework that 4-H has adopted which highlights the necessary attributes of youth programs that strive to create environments conducive to optimizing youth development. When youth are involved in programs that have these Eight Essential Elements, or attributes, it can lead to these positive outcomes of developing competent, confident, connected and caring adults with good character. Families can encourage youth programs to include these elements in their programming and select programs for youth participation that include these elements.
