New W-P teacher teaches ‘a little bit of everything’

Michelle Williams is a bit of a newbie to this area, but already is becoming fond of it.
Williams, 52, is one of four new teachers in the Wauneta-Palisade School District this year.
She’ll be teaching “a little bit of everything,” she said, including sixth- and eight-grade and junior English, sixth-grade science and junior high and high school technology classes.
That’s a lot of variety, but it suits her just fine. “I think teaching one subject all day would get kind of old,” Williams said.
A native of southwest Kansas, she has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degrees in curriculum and school leadership. She taught in Colorado and was the elementary school principal in Goodland, Kansas. After moving to this area in July 2019, she was curriculum director for Chase County schools last year.
The new job appears to be a good fit. “I like this area,” she said. “I like that Nebraska takes their time in education.” For example, the state has not rushed implementation of a Multi-Tier System of Support, basically a way for schools to provide interventions for students in need of help. Other states, like Colorado, rushed that implementation, but in Nebraska, “they’ve taken their time and done it right.”To read the full storyy, subscribe to the e-edition online or call the Breeze at 308-394-5389 to subscribe to the print edition.
