Laura Blomstedt, who grew up in Palisade, is the sole new teacher at the elementary school.

New W-P third grade teacher looks for the ‘light bulb’

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Laura Blomstedt’s favorite part of her job as a third-grade teacher is the same thing many of her colleagues would cite.
“My favorite part of the job is seeing the light bulb illuminate when students grasp the concepts that you have been working on,” Blomstedt said in an email interview.
She is one of four new teachers in the Wauneta-Palisade School District, and the only one based at the elementary school in Palisade, where she was raised.
“My parents moved here when my Dad retired from the Air Force in the early ‘90s,” she said. “After I graduated, I went off to college and graduated with a bachelor’s in elementary education.” She later earned a second endorsement in special education.
She became a military wife. She followed her husband, John — who also briefly taught here this year — using her degree to find work as a substitute teacher.
