WP FFA places two teams at last week’s State Convention

Two teams of Wauneta-Palisade FFA students earned ribbons at the Nebraska FFA State Convention April 4-6 in Lincoln.
    Thursday, the vet science team placed third overall. All four team members earned ribbons. Sophomore George Lee placed first overall, earning a gold medal and first purple.
    Lee scored 94 points. Second place went to Randolph’s Cindy Haselhorst with 93.17 points. Chase County’s Stevie Johnson placed third with 92 points. In fourth place was Kody Daily of Auburn with a score of 91.5 points.
    Lee also receives a $500 dollar scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
    Senior Jayden Ingold earned a blue ribbon with a score of 82 and classmates Destiny Beacham (76.5 points) and Natalie Ramirez (74.67 points) brought home red ribbons.
    WP FFA advisor Teresa Hayes and vet tech Candace Cayer coached the team.
    Scores from an exam, handling practicum and procedures practicum combined to produce each individuals score.
    Chase County finished in first place as a team.
    The top five schools finished within 17 points of each other. Chase County scored 424.5 points and WP 411.17 points.
    Hayes said any given day any of the top teams could have won the event.
    The meats team earned a red ribbon finishing 30th out of 108 teams Thursday. WP finished just over three points out of a blue ribbon (1083.1697 to 1081.1447)
