After busy week, Lady Broncos look to start winning streak

The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos volleyball team will look for answers this week against Southwest and Stapleton as it looks to bounce back from a rough week.
WP hosted St. Francis, Kansas, and Rawlins County, Kansas, for the schools’ annual triangular Sept. 6.
WP opened the night with a two-set loss to St. Francis. After dropping the first set 16-25, WP found itself trailing 1-6 in the second set.
Behind the serving of sophomores Maycee Wheeler, Haylee Sandman and Payton Yearous, the Broncos came back to even the score at 8-8.
As WP’s offense picked up the pace, getting two kills from Alexa Sandman and one each from Monique Gooden and Wheeler, the Broncos extended their lead to 15-12.
The Broncos were unable to hang on. A 20-17 lead turned into a 22-25 loss to wrap up the evening’s first match.
Gooden led WP with three kills and two aces. Michaela Dukes also had two aces and five set assists.
In WP’s second match, the Broncos and Buffaloes (5-3)were tied at 11 in the first set, thanks in part to two kills by H. Sandman and a double block by Payton Yearous and H. Sandman. The pair teamed up for another block later in the set, but in the end WP fell 18-25. Plagued by service errors early, WP trailed throughout it’s 25-19 set two loss.
    H. Sandman had four kills in 11 attacks for WP, as well as three aces and five blocks.
