Broncos hitting stride as regular season draws to a close

With ten wins in it’s last 13 matches, the Wauneta-Palisade volleyball continues to make strides.
The Broncos took on Medicine Valley (6-13) Oct. 9 winning 25-9, 25-14, 25-20..
Head Coach Terra Higgins said WP played very aggressively against the Raiders.
We passed well, which allowed us to work on running some quicker sets,” Higgins said. “It was a fun game!”
Haylee Sandman set the tone in the middle for the Broncos, totaling 13 kills. Dakota Ingold notched a team-high four service aces.
Friday, WP hosted Wallace for Homecoming.
Two aces by H. Sandman broke an early tie and started the Broncos on a 8-1 run. Monique Gooden had three kills during the run.
Holding a seven-point margin, WP never let Wallace close the gap and won the set 25-14.
Wallace held a five-point edge in the second set until another streak by H. Sandman gave WP the lead. As the attack errors mounted by Wallace, WP went from trailing by five leading.
Wallace had an answer, however, and charged back to take a 11-16 lead. This time it was Michaela Dukes at the service line when WP closed the gap.
Dukes served six straigh, helping WP to a 19-17 lead thanks to kills by Alexa Sandman, Gooden and H. Sandman.
As the teams trades serves, the score remained close. Two Wallace attack errors around a H. Sandman and Payton Yearous block gave WP the 26-24 win.
Wallace would not go down without a fight. The Broncos never trailed in the set until it got right down to the nitty gritty.
Three Wallace aces in four serves gave the Wildcats set point. WP would lose the set 23-25.
The Broncos left the drama behind them in the third set and took the fourth by storm.
WP took a 8-1 lead with A. Sandman and Gooden doing the serving duties. Each had two aces.
WP maintained it’s lead thanks to a service error and four-straight attack errors, which helped the Broncos cruise to a 25-12 win.
“I think we lost our focus a little in the Wallace game, but I was proud of how the girls turned it around and finished in the fourth set,” Higgins said.

RPAC tournament Monday
WP hit the road for Benkelman Monday, where the Broncos opened RPAC play.
Higgins said the WP was excited for the tournament and set the goal of playing Tuesday in McCook.
The evening got off on the right foot with a sweep of fifth-seeded Maxwell.
