Holmes, Miner fifth at Saturday’s Chase County Invitational

With the excitement of hosting Friday’s RPAC wrestling meet as fuel, the Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers placed three at the Chase County Invite Saturday.
“This was a tough meet with a lot of good competition,” WP Coach Danny Schluckebier said. “We’re looking forward to working on a few things individually and coming into RPAC ready and motivated to do well.”
At 182, Cody Holmes earned three straight pins after losing his first two matches. Schluckebier said Holmes improved as the day went on. Though pinned in his second match, Holmes wrestled better than his first match. Schluckebier said Holmes wrestled his best in his fourth match.
Hunter Miner got off to a rough start at 132 pounds, before bouncing back to take fifth place. Schluckebier said Miner wrestled well in winning by decision in his third match, but got caught in a hold against a 20-5 wrestler in the consolation finals. Miner took fifth with a pin right at the end of the first period.
Koltar Rahn was sixth at 170 pounds. Schluckebier said Rahn wrestled his best in the fifth-place match.
Schluckebier said Tennille Warembourg wrestled her best match of the year in a second-round loss to a 5-2 Alliance wrestler. Warembourg went all three rounds in her final match of the day before losing 5-11.
Cole Hamilton lost four matches at 220 pounds and Zakary Barrett lost both his matches at 145 pounds.
