Injuries take toll during 2019 Broncos’ 3-5 football season

With a strong senior class to lead the way, expectations were high for this season’s Wauneta-Palisade football team.
But four of the group suffered injuries, leaving the Broncos short-handed as the season wore on.
Senior Ben Anderjaska started the season at quarterback for the Broncos, but only played in three games before a foot injury ended his season. Anderjaska still led the Broncos with 36 completed passes for 473 yards and six touchdowns.
Senior lineman George Lee helped anchor the offensive and defensive lines until going down with a knee injury in the Broncos win over Paxton.
Senior back Austen Rozelle injured a knee the following week against Brady. Rozelle led WP with 435 yards rushing and 392 yards receiving, while tying for second on the team in tackles. Rozelle scored a team high 15 touchdowns.
Senior back Ty Duvel battled injuries throughout the season and played in five games. Duvel finished the season with 435 total yards.
Classmates Tucker Boos, Gunner Goings and Zack Barrett finished out the season.
After only seeing 10 carries as a junior, Boos stepped up for the Broncos wherever he was needed. Boos caught 14 passes as a tight end and took over at fullback as the season went on, finishing with 46 carries. On defense, Boos led the Broncos with 76 tackles, including 47 solo tackles.
