Lady Broncos ready for subdistricts

The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team has played its final games of the regular season, splitting games with Maywood/Hayes Center and Arthur County.
Friday night the Broncos fell at home to 18-5 MHC.
“MHC is a good basketball team, and they are very good offensively,” WP Head Coach Matt Cox said.
The Wolves jumped all over WP early. MHC held a 2-18 lead before four points by Destany Simpson. Seniors Monique Gooden and Dakota Ingold accounted for WP’s seven second-quarter points.
Ingold made WP’s only basket of the third quarter, to go with a free throw each from Gooden and Haylee Sandman. Simpson added four more points in the fourth quarter. Sandman and Michaela Dukes also added baskets to wrap up the 25-63 loss.
“We defended pretty well, but gave up too many second-chance rebounds,” Cox said. “We did a good job of handling the press, but really struggled to score out of our offense.”
Simpson paced WP with eight points. Sandman grabbed seven rebounds.
