Lady Broncos sweep Wallace on Homecoming

With a hectic week of volleyball behind it, the Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team had a chance to regroup heading into Thursday’s Homecoming contest with Wallace. The time off paid off with a sweep of the Wildcats.
“It was nice to have a slower week this week after the craziness of playing six games last week,” said WP Head Coach Terra Higgins.
Higgins added that the team took time to refocus and work on passing fundamentals.
The work paid off Thursday night.
WP took a 5-1 lead in the first set before Wallace came back to tie the game at 6-6.
With Monique Gooden serving and Haylee Sandman in the front row, WP got its offense in gear. The Broncos went on a 19-6 tear to pull away for the first set win, 25-12.
Faith Simpson was dominant in set two attacking and serving. Simpson propelled WP from a 2-5 deficit to an 8-6 lead.
Wallace hung with the Broncos, tying the game at 11, before WP took off. WP outscored Wallace 14-8 down the stretch and winning the set 25-19.
The Wildcats kept things interesting in the third game, nearly forcing a fourth set.
Wallace opened scoring with a four-point run before WP came to life. Blocks by Simpson and Destiny Beacham helped stymie the Wallace offense, while offensively Simpson and Sandman carried WP to a 10-7 lead.
