Cash Yearous returns a first-quarter interception Thursday against Wallace, setting up Wauneta-Palisade’s first touchdown.

Offense gets on track as Wauneta-Palisade beats Wallace 55-34

The Wauneta-Palisade football team picked up some much needed momentum Thursday with a 55-34 win over Wallace in WP’s second district contest.
Co-Head Coach Randy Geier said it was a good win and a total team effort.
WP turned a Cash Yearous interception on the opening series of the game into a Dalton Harchelroad touchdown. When Harchelroad, WP’s leading rusher, was injured on the play and didn’t return to the game, Ty Duval stepped up to play running back.
The first quarter moved along quickly. WP picked up two points when Wallace snapped the ball over the head of the punter and out the back of the end zone.
After taking the free kick, the Broncos scored two plays later on a 47-yard run by Austen Rozelle.
Just when it looked like WP would run all over the Wildcats, Wallace responded with a touchdown drive to cut WP’s lead in half.
WP finished the first quarter with a punt, but on the first play of the second quarter Rozelle returned an interception for a touchdown.
Wallace matched the touchdown with one of its own four plays later to keep the WP lead at eight, 22-16.
A 47-yard touchdown pass to Duval from Duncan Rector extended WP’s lead, but once more Wallace answered. The Wildcats scored on a 69-yard reception with 1:30 left in the half to make the margin 28-22 at halftime.
After the Broncos were unable to convert a long first drive in the second half into points, a quick Wallace fumble set WP up with good field position. Off a fake field goal, Dennis Cavanaugh found Tucker Boos in the end zone to increase WP’s lead to 34-22.
