Wauneta-Palisade remains undefeated with win over Paxton
The longest road trip of the season so far wasn’t enough to stop the Wauneta-Palisade football team’s winning ways. The Broncos remained undefeated with a 42-34 win over Paxton Friday night.
After forcing a turnover on downs on the game’s opening series, WP drove down the field on an eight-play drive, capped by a 15-yard touchdown run by Dalton Harchelroad.
WP’s defense continued to bring the heat. Caid Doetker picked up a sack to end a Paxton drive and WP’s secondary forced two incomplete passes to end a drive. As the teams traded possessions, WP was unable to score on its second possession of the game. Its third series was a different story.
Taking over near midfield, the Broncos started off slow, but picked up steam. Harchelroad went around the left end for 17 yards and two plays later quarterback Duncan Rector picked up eight yards.
Two plays later, Harchelroad found the end zone from five yards out.
Following the touchdown, Paxton advanced to WP’s 30-yard line before a snap over the quarterback’s head led to the Broncos taking possession of the fumble.WP quickly made the Tigers pay, scoring two plays later. Harchelroad was virtually untouched as he headed to the end zone.
Holding a 20-0 lead, the Broncos forced another Paxton fumble, but was unable to take advantage.
WP punted back to the Tigers, only to have Ben Anderjaska pick off a Paxton pass two plays later.
