WP falls in four to DCS, Hitchcock County Tourney up next

The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team split games with Cheylin and Dundy County-Stratton last week.
The Broncos traveled to Bird City, Kansas to face Cheylin Thursday.
WP fell in a close first set of the match before rallying to win the next three.
Head Coach Terra Higgins said she felt her team controlled the match.
“The girls came out and set the tempo of the game each set against Cheylin,” she said.
The Broncos used a new rotation in the match, which Higgins said gave her an opportunity to see some of WP’s different options on the right side.
“The girls battled and did well playing through adversity.”
Haylee Sandman led the Broncos with 13 kills and four blocks. Michaela Dukes had 26 assists. Alexa Sandman and Destany Simpson each had four service aces.
    Friday WP hosted DCS.
The first two sets were extremely close with the teams splitting the games with identical scores of 27-25.
Both teams fought off match points in the first set before the Tigers came out on top.
WP held a 24-19 advantage in the second set. DCS came back to tie the game at 24. Back-to-back kills by H. Sandman finished off the Tigers.
The third set remained just as close. Tied at 16, DCS went on a four-point run. WP fought off match point at 20-24 and brought the game to within one, 23-24, before losing 23-25.
DCS took the momentum into the fourth set. After giving up the lead to the Tigers, WP fought back but lost the game by three points, 22-25.
    H. Sandman finished the match with 21 kills.
    Dukes had 25 assists.
Four Broncos, Cali Cox, A. Sandman, Faith Lemon and H. Sandman, notched double-digit kills.
Higgins likes what she sees from her team’s defensive effort.
