Wauneta-Palisade’s young wrestling team saw its first action Friday at the Elwood Invite.
    Cody Holmes advanced the farthest into the meet. Holmes went 2-2, advancing to the 182-pound bracket third-place match.
    Hunter Miner also won a match in the 126-pound bracket.
    Also hitting the mats were freshmen Colby Hoskovec at 113 pounds, Wyatt Muths at 138 pounds, Cole Hamilton at 285 pounds and senior Evan Nordhausen at 120 pounds.
    The freshmen handled their first high school meet well, WP Coach Danny Schluckebier said, learning a lot of things and getting the “first meet nervousness” stuff out of the way.
    “It was a very good learning experience,” Schluckebier said. “They learned quickly what they, as individuals and as a team, need to learn and work on.”
