Colton Barrett holds the advantage over Fryderyk Sitnick of Arapahoe in Barrett’s first match of the Elwood Invite.

Wrestlers open season at Elwood

The Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers Evan Nordhausen, Colton Barrett and Willis Christner got their seasons started Friday at the Elwood Invite.
Barrett picked up WP’s lone win of the day, but aggravated a recurring injury that kept him out of his final two matches.
WP coach Danny Schluckebier said Barrett got off to a good start and he’s hopeful the shoulder injury won’t hold Barrett out of this week’s meet.
Schluckebier said Christner came out really strong and more aggressive than last year.
After a quick first match, Christner had his “first tournament hiccup” resulting in his pin.
Schluckebier is confident Christner will not make the same mistake twice, adding that Christner is more controlled this season.
    “He’s coming together,” Schluckebier said.
Moving up a weight this year, Nordhausen lost both his matches at 113.
