Chamber Christmas Kick-off brings community together

Wauneta community members were met with the fragrant smells of chili, desserts and many smiles as they entered the Wauneta Community Building Monday night at Wauneta Chamber of Commerce’s Chili Cook-off.
After people filed through the food line they were entertained by Wauneta-Palisade Schools’ Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. The students performed songs, and were directed by Pre-K teacher Kristy Vapenik and Kindergarten teacher Dawn Doetker.
In the chili competition Shane Anderson representing Frenchman Valley Coop received first place, John Johnston representing Walgren’s Supermarket received second place and Christi Christner representing the Wauneta Breeze received third place. Each received a monetary prize donated by Harchelroad Motors.
In the wreath competition Michelle Harchelroad received first place, Wauneta-Palisade Schools’ PTO received second place and Wauneta Care and Therapy Center received third place. Winner received Chamber bucks as a prize.
There was a free will donation at the event, and all proceeds went to the Chamber for future events.
“We planned for 250. I think we were pretty close to that goal. I thought there was a good turnout,” said Leanne Hunt, one of the cook-off’s coordinator.

The Angel Tree
The Angel Tree that was at the cook-off is now located at Western States Bank. Anyone who is sponsoring an angel must have their gifts delivered to the bank by Dec. 18.
If giving more than one present to an angel it is requested that all gifts be wrapped in one package.
Santa Saturday
The Wauneta Chamber’s next event will be Santa Saturday on Dec. 23.
The day will include a free movie showing at the Chateau Theatre at 10 a.m. MT/11 a.m. CT with a children’s prize drawing following and a visit from Santa. All children entries will be made that morning at the theatre.
