County renews agreement

Chase County Commissioners Dave Hogsett and Don Weiss, Jr. met with several visitors during their meeting May 9.
Wildlife Services’ Mike Sherman presented the board with an budget for the upcoming year. The agreement between Chase County and the US Department of Agriculture is for $13,079, up from $12,700 this current year.
Sherman said he has killed over 72 coyotes in the past year, including 30 with mange. Sherman treated between 200-300 acres for prairie dogs and expects to do more in the upcoming year.
The commissioners continued to express concern about the vultures sitting on the courthouse.
The group also talked about the turkeys in Wauneta.
Because they are game animals and have a season, Sherman would have to buy a license to kill any of the birds. Sherman did suggest instituting a ban on feeding turkeys and giving out tickets to offenders.
Dave Hanna with 21st Century was on hand to discuss the possible lease of tractors by the county.
Weiss and Hogsett are both interested in tractors for their districts.
Hanna suggested 135 horsepower light duty tractors, one with a loader.
Both commissioners are interested in longer-term leases, with Weiss wanting one for five years.
