Fire drill stops hearts, demonstrates excellent response time by WVFD, Wauneta EMS squad
The Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department and Wauneta EMS confirmed their exemplary response time Tuesday afternoon when a planned fire drill was accidentally sent out as the real thing. Hearts throughout town stopped until the mishap was uncovered.
Wauneta-Palisade Public Schools Superintendent Randy Geier said the school had planned to hold a fire drill at its Wauneta Attendance Center on Tuesday afternoon.
He said the protocol for a fire drill is that the fire alarm company is supposed to first call a school representative to verify the alarm prior to issuing a call to emergency responders.
