Hospital board pursuing Plan B

Board members of the Chase County Community Hospital will pursue a hospital addition that will save $4.6 million compared to a completely new, stand-alone facility.
On Thursday, board members gave Administrator Steve Lewis the go-ahead to engage the design-build firms to complete the design for a 41,000 square-foot hospital addition.
The revised plan puts the new addition to the east and north of the existing clinic building.
The plan keeps both the 1992 speciality clinic addition and the 2002 clinic facility. Cost estimates for the revised “Plan B” option are right at $25.1 million.
Keeping the existing clinic facilities will reduce overall construction costs and addresses patron concerns about abandoning the current clinic facilities.
Once construction is completed, the existing 1977 hospital facility will be razed. That cost hasn’t been included in the estimate.

$4.6 million savings
In July, the design-build firms selected by the board—Davis Partnership Architects in Denver and Adolfson & Peterson Construction in Fort Collins, Colorado—presented a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $29.76 million for a new stand-alone facility on the north edge of Imperial.
