Mercy Meals of Wauneta will hold a fund raiser bake sale Dec. 5.
    The sale will be from 9 to 11 a.m. that day in Wauneta.
    “We’ve been doing it every year and that helps us raise funds,” said the Rev. Keith Wellman, who chairs the local branch of the organization. (“I chair the meetings,” he said with a chuckle. “It’s the women who do the work.”)
    Mercy Meals operates on an annual budget of about $40,000, he said.
    Once administrative and other costs are paid, “we could get just about two and a half loads of product with what we have now,” he said. “It costs about $9,000 for a load of product that we package.”
    Mercy Meals volunteers package rations of rice, soy meal, dried vegetables and chicken flavoring, which are shipped to some 65 countries worldwide and to areas in the United States.
