Wauneta community members look on as a Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department, decked out in Christmas decor, drives by. A total of 12 entries participated in this year’s parade.

PTO Parade of Lights, a night to remember

Despite the chill in the air Monday night, Wauneta’s main street held a certain warmth to it as community members enjoyed a night of laughter, Christmas carols and memory making.
After the Wauneta Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Kick-off at the Wauneta Community Building the second annual PTO Parade of Lights took place with the theme “Spreading Cheer Throughout the Year.”
There were a total of 12 entries that participated in the parade. The Imperial Auction  Market received first place, Harchelroad Motors received second place and Wauneta’s Girl Scout  chapter third place. All winners received a cash prize.
While community members enjoyed the festive parade floats they were also treated to hot chocolate that was passed out for free in front of Walgren’s Supermarket.
PTO members were leading the way in the parade and handed out both hot chocolate and apple cider packets. Many other floats passed out other goodies such as candy, glow in the dark necklaces, cookies, etc.
“The community involvement was great,” said PTO President Sam Sutherland.
