School board accepts one teacher resignation, one teacher contract

Wauneta-Palisade Schools board met March 15 at the Palisade Attendance Center for its regular board meeting.
The board accepted Jennifer Loker’s teacher resignation.
In Loker’s letter of resignation she expressed that this move, “will truly be bittersweet.” She also thanked Superintendent Randy Geier for being an “understanding and encouraging superintendent.”
Loker’s resignation is effective at the end of 2017-2018 school year.
A new teacher contract for the 2018-2019 school year for Lori Klooz was accepted by the board. Klooz’s husband was just hired as Chase County Schools’ superintendent.
Geier noted that Klooz will take over some of Loker’s duties, and has a masters in computer integration technology. Administration plans on having Klooz educate staff members on any new online curriculum and provide assistance where staff members may need.
Klooz is endorsed in 7th-12th math and language and K-12th technology.
“She will be good for our district. We are really fortunate,” said Geier.

Superintendent report
Geier reported that there are currently six employees who utilize the school’s day care. Next year there will be seven employees using the day care.
Planning for next year, Geier noted there are various options  the school could choose. One of which would be shifting the day care operations to a private party/person, and the school simply provide the building. That route would save the school money, time and resources.
Geier noted that the day care has saved the school money because it has provided teachers consistent child care.
“Regardless of what we do, we still need to have a facility available to meet the Legislated bill written by Tony Vargas to have space available to meet parental requirements for a Wauneta-Palisade student if they become a parent,” stated Geier’s report.
Senior Cash Yearous held a Red Cross Blood Drive in the Wauneta Attendance Center. Geier noted he received several positive compliments from several individuals. A total of 50 people donated blood.

Principal’s report
Principal Joseph Frecks noted that NSCAS/ACT testing is coming up for students. Following last year’s schedule the juniors will take the ACT test in place of NSCAS testing.
Last year juniors went across the street the Wauneta United Methodist Church and the test was administered by Betsy Johanson.
