Village moves forward on sewer main project

The Wauneta Village Board of Trustees met for its regular August meeting last Tuesday, Aug. 8.
David Blau with Miller Associates was present to update the board on the bid received for replacing the sewer main crossing the river with a PVC pipe encased in a half-inch steel pipe lined with sand to protect the new main.
Blau explained that there was only once response for the published bid due to the current work load of other contractors.
After discussing the possibility of re-bidding the project, and possibly allowing contractors to select their own finish date the board evaluated the bid from Van Kirk Bros. Contracting located in Sutton.
Van Kirk Bros. Contracting’s original bid was $249,330 which would result in exceeding the total project budget of $250,000. After further negotiations the price was dropped down to $209,480.
The board approved the $209,480 bid, and the completion date for the contract is Oct. 15, 2017.

Propane contracts
The board approved to contract 1,600 gallons of propane with Wauneta Crossroads for the ambulance barn at $1.09/gallon prepaid and 1,000 gallons with Wauneta Coop Oil for the fire hall at $1.10/gallon PEPP.
Last  year the ambulance barn was contracted for 1,600 gallons, but used 2,111. Hunter Heating and Cooling fixed the furnance last year, and village superintendent Bill Bischoff believes that the overuse of propane will not be a problem this year.
Last year the fire hall was contracted for 1,000 gallons, and used 835.
