School Board nails down details about school day care

The Wauneta Palisade Schools’ board met Monday, Nov. 6, for its monthly meeting at the Wauneta Attendance Center. There were several members of the public present for the meeting including Tess Brown, TJ Warembourg and Audrey Colwell.
The main topic was the school’s day care. This topic was first brought up during the August meeting when the school thought it had to have a day care implemented the following week.
The board believes that this child care center will meet Nebraska’s new state mandate that enforces all Nebraska schools to have a specific room, that meets the various state requirements, for any and all nursing students and will be a good recruitment tool that will help bring in teachers with young families.
“It is a good recruitment tool and a good retention tool,” said Geier.
This school-owned child care center is only open for school employee’s children, and will have the same hours as the school. This means that the day care will not be available on snow days, holiday breaks, professional development days, etc.
The hourly rate is $3.50 per child which is higher than some average rates. That in mind, the school’s intent is not to take clients of any surrounding child care centers.
