Alma Isabel Sheffer Romine

    Alma Sheffer was born in Hamburg, New York to Frances (Elmer) and Ruth (Thexton) Sheffer on July 28, 1936. She was one of four children.
    Alma graduated from Orchard Park High School in 1954. She attended college at Buffalo State Teaching College for one year.
    Alma met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Romine while he was stationed in Fort Niagara, New York. Bob would come home with her brother Gordon on weekends. The couple wed in South Park, New York on Nov. 12, 1955. Alma moved with Bob to his hometown of Palisade, Nebraska and made their home on the family farm. They were blessed with two children, Cindy and Randy. Alma and Bob moved to Onawa, Iowa in Dec. of 2016.
    Alma was a District Officer of Jr. Women’s Club, a member of Women’s Club, Home Study Club, Friendly Neighbor’s Club and the United Methodist Women. Alma was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, painting, crafts, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was especially proud of her flower garden and enjoyed having a big garden of produce every year. She was best known for her baking and making pies for various events. Alma loved to cook and always made sure she had meals and baked goods for all the men working with Bob on the farm. She would have fresh flowers at the Palisade Methodist Church every Sunday during the summer. She loved travelling with Bob to various REA events through their years in Palisade. They really enjoyed their trips to Waldon and Estes Park, Colorado to see the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
    Alma had many friends that she kept in touch with through the years in New York, Nebraska, and Iowa.
    She was a city girl turned farm wife. She could work as hard as the men on the farm. Alma also enjoyed watching sports with Bob and was an avid Husker fan, closely following the football and volleyball teams through the years.
    Alma is survived by her daughter Cindy (Dave) King of Onawa, Iowa; sons Randy (Dawn) Romine of Elmwood, Nebraska and Arlie Holmes of Columbus, Nebraska; brother Gordon (Kathy) Sheffer of Orchard Park, New York; seven grandchildren Rachel (Dean) Orvis, Josh (Naomy) King, Hannah King, Brandon Cudaback, Elise Romine, Hope (Kylor) Gilmore, and Dallas Romine; three great grandchildren, Bo Orvis, Reagan Orvis, and Riley Orvis; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
    Alma was preceded in death by her husband Bob; her parents; brother Ronald Sheffer, sister Margaret Sheffer Holmes; and granddaughter Naomi King.
    Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Children’s Home, 4939 S 118th St, Omaha, NE, 68137 or the Palisade United Methodist Church, 103 North Powell, Palisade, NE, 69040. Cards of condolence can be sent to the family in care of Cindy King, 1421 11th St., Onawa, IA 51040.
    Due to Covid-19, memorial services will be held at a date later this summer.
