Volleyball season ends with loss to FCSH in district finals

The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team was swept by Falls City Sacred Heart Saturday in Hastings, ending the Broncos’ season with a 19-8 record.
The Irish (21-13) started off each set with big runs. In set one, WP trailed 0-5 before a Haylee Sandman kill jump- started the Bronco offense.
As WP clawed its way back into the match, two kills by H. Sandman and one by Payton Yearous pulled WP to within two points, 13-15.
The Irish attack was too much for the Broncos, however. Despite kills from H. Sandman and Yearous to make the score 21-22, three-straight attack errors down the stretch left the Broncos with a 21-25 loss.
FCSH was hitting on all cylinders, blocking and attacking early in the second set when the Irish took a 1-8 lead.
With kills by Michaela Dukes, Destany Simpson and H. Sandman, paired with three FCSH attack errors, WP closed the gap to 8-9.
Two more Irish attack errors tied the game a 11 and a kill by Simpson gave WP a 12-11 lead.
From there on it was all FCSH. The Irish had eight kills and two blocks to finish off set two 13-25.
FCSH never let WP get closer than 6-8 in the final set. The teams traded kills in the middle of the set, then traded service errors as match point approached.
An attack error by WP ended the match, 14-25.
    H. Sandman led WP with 16 kills.
Dukes had two aces and sixteen assist.
Maycee Wheeler also finished with double-digit assists, totaling 10.
