Lady Broncos get win over Southwest

The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ basketball team split games last week, falling to 7-3 Hitchcock County before getting a tough home win against 4-7 Southwest.
WP battled hard against the Falcons. The Broncos erased a 8-15 deficit to tie the game at 15 at the end of the first quarter.
WP took the lead in the third quarter with a Haylee Sandman layup and three-pointer by Alexa Sandman. Though tied at 21 midway through the second quarter, WP was outscored 2-12 heading into halftime.
The third quarter made the difference in the game. Zoey Boos and Cali Cox each made three-pointers to match two by the Falcons, but Hitchcock County made seven two-point baskets to two for the Broncos.
WP was 8-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter of the 49-70 loss.
“We played really great defense tonight,” Coach Cox said, adding he was pleased with his team’s effort to challenge Hitchcock County shots.
WP rebounding left something to be desired, according to Coach Cox.
“We didn’t do a very good job rebounding, and we gave up way too many point on offensive rebounds.”
Overall, he believes the Broncos are improving, but have some “little things to fix.”
    C. Cox led three Broncos in double figures, finishing with 12 points. H. Sandman and A. Sandman each scored 10 points. Dukes pulled down 10 rebounds for the Broncos.
