Lady Broncos improve to 6-3 with win over Warriors

Despite time off for the holiday moratorium, the Wauneta-Palisade Lady Broncos added one to the win column with a defeat of Arapahoe Friday.
    Unlike the boys’ teams, which met in the Cattle Trail Tournament, this was the first meeting this season between the two teams.
    Monique Gooden got the Broncos on the board, followed by a three-pointer by Faith Simpson. F. Simpson would score nine points in the quarter, combining with Destiny Beacham and Natalie Ramirez to make five-of-six free throws.
    Taking a 14-4 lead into the second quarter, it took WP nearly four minutes to score. The Broncos maintained a 20-8 lead after four-straight points by Simpson, but allowed Arapahoe to narrow the margin to 21-15 by halftime.
    After a basket by Arapahoe to start the half and a free throw by Gooden, F. Simpson and Destany Simpson went to work. F. Simpson scored on back-to-back plays then found D. Simpson who converted a conventional three-point play.
    D. Simpson scored once more off an inbounds pass from Reagan Skow before another F. Simpson converted her own conventional three-point playing after receiving an outlet pass from D. Simpson.
    With the lead up to 34-23, WP added baskets by Gooden, Ramirez and two free throws by Skow.
    As time ran down in the quarter, Arapahoe hit a three-pointer but left enough time on the clock for Gooden to knock in her own three-pointer from just across half court as the buzzer sounded.
    The teams went to the charity stripe early and often in the fourth quarter, shooting 13 free throws over the first three minutes.
