Wauneta-Palisade falls in quarterfinals of RPAC tourney
With only two regular season games remaining, the Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team’s record is now 16-5 after a win over Medicine Valley and a loss in the quarterfinals of the RPAC tournament to Dundy County-Stratton.
WP hosted the first two rounds of the tournament, facing DCS after the Tigers beat Maxwell 25-16, 25-16, 18-25, 25-23.
DCS was warmed up and ready for the Broncos. Tied at seven early on, a scoring run by DCS left WP trailing 8-11. The Broncos bounced back to tie the game at 14 before DCS forced game point, 18-24. WP scored three straight points before losing 21-25.
In a repeat of the first set, the teams found themselves tied at 7-7 in the second set. Once more, a scoring run by DCS put WP behind the eight ball. The Broncos pulled within two points, 15-17, but could never close the distance, losing 25-15.
With its back to the wall, WP battled back and forth with the Tigers through the third set.
The Broncos final lead came at 14-13 and DCS pulled away down the stretch of WP’s 20-25 loss.
The Broncos had opened the season with a five-set win over DCS (10-12) and held the top seed in the West bracket.
Faith Simpson led WP with 11 kills and Haylee Sandman’s 0.267 attack percentage on 15 attacks topped WP.
DCS faced Maywood/Hayes Center Tuesday night in McCook. MHC won 3-1 over Hitchcock County. In the first round, Hitchcock County beat Wallace and MHC defeated Paxton.
On the other half of the bracket, top-seeded Southern Valley advanced to the semifinals with a win over Alma. Cambridge defeated Arapahoe and Bertrand beat Southwest before Bertrand beat Cambridge 3-2 to advance to the semifinals.
